Chrome Rolltop

I had a Chrome messenger for a while, and looking back I wouldn't pay more than $30 for a bag of that quality. It did the job but definitely lacked in comfort and function.. I eventually hated that bag. I was able to flip it to some dude from OCF though, made almost all my money back, and went out and bought my Mission Rambler... I love it more than anything. Even more than Del breakfiestas and cherry coke. Anyway, it looks like Chrome is starting to put out some quality product with their new Yalta. I'm guessing it beats the shit out of their messengers in every category but hipster cred. Sometimes you have to sacrifice comfort/function/practicality/common sense/etc in order to look "legitimate" (a term interchangeable with "hip"), but if you're not afraid to sacrifice cool points for something you'll love, I suggest looking into rolltops. I stand by Mission from personal experience, but this new Chrome doesn't look half bad... See for yourself:

No Cassettes!

hopefully this will suffice for my absence: No Cassettes full movie! Chris Fonseca just put this up two days ago on vimeo. Go thank him and his mother.

270 miles. 2 days.

So there's that.

Yu

As usual, the guys out in Japan are killing it.
Here's Yu Kusumoto, who used to ride for Gorilla and is now testing the Charmer frame for BreakBrake17.
I definitely recommend checking out this guys other edits. This is just one of my personal favorites.

Ride easy,

Siq Eddiez

I've been riding a lot and posting a little.
Hopefully you've been outside on a bike more than inside on the internet.
Anyway...

Matthew Spencer, Yet Again

Great style, great class. Crispy little edit from Matthew Spencer and Wolf Drawn. Looking clean.

Great weather for a ride, get out there guys.
Be well.

br00tal

I've seen a lot of new trick edits today, but they're all quick-hitters and none of them really impressed me as much as this little video did.

51.5 miles per hour.
Fixed. Brakeless.
Awesome.

Some Variety from the VMP

Sweet little night ride edit from the VM Project:

Along with a nice little trick section:

Fun fact of the day: nollie bars are possible. damn.

Fall

I've been outside enjoying this amazing fall weather, so sorry for the lack of constant posting. Hopefully this holds you over until next time!

It's about that time of year again: Tom Mosher's third annual HELL TRACK...

New edit from Ratskl and Grafa...
Looks like they've got something big on the way.

"Lame" trick edit from Fixed Cult...

And a bunch of losers wearing down their tires at some sick coastal spot...
Have to admit though, there are some pretty awesome shots in that last one. Anyone else slightly confused by the ending?

Be well.

Git Nasty

Here's Nasty from the boys across the Pacific at W-Base doing his thing out in the streets. Always love to see what's up in the scene in Japan, those guys are killing it day after day. Really hoping to go check out W-Base someday.
Simple but clean.

Quickiez

Fun ride last night with some of the Irvine Ridazz dudes, can't wait for next week. I always talk about it, but if you don't already know what goes down Wednesday nights - you should look into it. I'm off to Huntington to pick up a new wheelset so I don't have much time for words, but here's what's worth watching today:

Seoul Fixed Teaser:

Mission Workshop in Paris:

De Rosa (boner alert):

Be well.

Aloha Fixed

A buddy of mine just sent me this link: www.alohafixed.com

Just some normal dudes doing their thing out on the islands.
Always cool to check out other scenes and see how its progressing.

I'll hopefully have a new bike by tonight if all works out! Finally getting a replacement for that stolen bike.

Until then,
Ride safe, ride easy.

Matt

Cultur

Sick shit. Honestly, this is awesome. Tyler Johnson for Cultur.
Watch it now. Get stoked. Go ride.

Be well.

Rainy Dayz

How are you dealing with the rain? Indoor barspin competition? Building a velodrome in your living room? Trackstanding in front of your plasma screen? Treadmill wheelies? Go to our Facebook Page and let us know! Seriously. 50 fans and no one wants to talk. I'm lonely.

I'm hoping this clears up Wednesday night for the weekly UCI bike ride. This one should be fun, and nothing should be stopping me from making it out this time (other than weather):
Be sure to check this one out, peep the Facebook Event and Gmaps Route, and if you're in the area and the weather doesn't suck too much, come join us! Going to be a much more mellow route than usual, with a lot of photo ops.. If weather permits I'm planning on filming for a mini edit, so be there.

In the mean time, watch these:

Southernfixed Freeway Riding:

Anyone in the FGFS (or FGF? Freestyle is technically one word but I always see FGFS..) game already knows who this fellow is, but get reacquainted:

Indubitably.

Pick up the REVOKED! movie if you don't already own it. They're a solid crew for sure. Here's a 15 minuted edit from their NYC trip. Nothing new, but a great watch nonetheless:

I'm posting up the longer edits I know of so you can waste time while you wait for the rain to subside. Here's a web edit from Aloha Fixed, apparently comprised of all the footy that got rejected from a Bootleg Sessions 4 submittal. Oh well, web edits FTW!

Take care today if you're going to be commuting in this weather.. although one continuous leg-over skid down Ridgeline seems like a good idea, it's probably not. Rain sucks if you're running 23c on slick asphalt... especially brakeless. Be careful! Stay up.

Phoenix Footiez

Matt Spencer repping Phoenix foot retention... to me, they're just a complete rip off of Hold Fasts with no major design changes or anything new to offer, BUT that's just my opinion. As long as they're a company that's in it for the love of riding (and so far, they've proved to be) then I can't hate them for capitalizing on something relevant to the sport. Be sure to check out Wolf Drawn if you haven't already.

Ed Wonka: "Fuck!"

A lot of heartache goes into getting a few photos and a comical 30 second edit. That rail is pretty damn gnarly.

Rollin' Ankz

So I wrecked my ankle today skateboarding, fun stuff. I think I need to narrow down my list of hobbies.. whatever. Normally wouldn't care or have a reason to talk about such a minor injury, but it occurred about an hour and a half before the Irvine Ridazz ride tonight. Got on my bike and my ankle just felt too weak to ride 25ish miles brakeless with a 48x15 ratio. Sorry dudes! I wish I could've been there, I'm not usually one to flake on rides.. especially ones with such awesome routes. Maybe next time I should be smart and not skate for two solid hours knowing I'll be riding later that night. Life is just too fun. Well, if anyone that went on that ride is reading this right now, head over to iFixed's facebook page and let me know how much fun it was, how jealous I should be, why I'm such a pussy for not showing up, etc! All feedback is appreciated, especially negative. I need to laugh once in a while :D Anyway...

Since I've been sitting in my room all night doing nothing, I've had the time to scour my vimeo feed for some new uploads.. most of this stuff is pretty recent, so hopefully I'm providing you with unseen material. First up, the breakbrake17 guys uploaded a little promo for the Charmer frame. Short and sweet:

Coincidentally, Jacob Ruff is rolling around on one of their prototypes.. Looks strong enough to me! Roof drop recorded on an iPhone, courtesy of the Zlog crew:

And finally (yes finally, not a lot drops in 24 hours, I'm sorry), a nice little edit from Zlog featuring their 2010 fall / winter collection. Nothing too riveting in this video but a good watch nonetheless:

Stay up, be well.

Irvine Ridazz

http://www.facebook.com/event.php?eid=166416300035527
These guys have been out riding in the UCI area for a while now, but they're getting back to business tomorrow.

Hit up this ride if you're in the area, I'm sure it'll be a good one and sounds like a sick route, similar to the Irvine to Newport route we used to do on Serious Saturdays.
I wish I could go, but I'm still out of a bike, hopefully getting a new one together this weekend!
If you guys go, look out for Will on this ride.

For those of you not on Facebook, the proposed route is here:

WRAHW Welcomes Tom Lamarche

Saw this on Friday but forgot to get it up online.. woops. More crazy stuff from the WRAHW crew. That ending clip had me gasping... and I don't normally gasp. He took it like a champ though. Nuts. See for yourself:

Meanwhile, in Thailand...

Worldwide yo! Sam's edit for Grip Shop, steezy clean:

Bicycle Portraits II

This turned out great. Super clean. Great to see all types of riders on all types of rides. Don't discriminate because your 'sick fixie' is flashier than your friend's road build, or hate on BMX because you only ride FGFS. We all ride bikes. We all love it. Spread the love. Respect riders, respect bikes. That being said, I do really like that "your bike sucks" sticker haha. Go ride, then check out Zach's other work here.

Now I woN

Congo throwing down yet again.. but this time, it's all switch. Looking good man.

Berlin Night Ride

Good stuff. When's the next night ride going down in our part of town? Somebody step up. I'll be there for sure.

Autumn

Nice minimal video. Mellow song, simple cinematography, but still makes you want to get out and ride. All the way from Stuttgart, Germany...

New little edit from mash - fast and sweet.

Charming.

BB17 Charmer build. Looking sexy. I want.

Stolen

So my bike got stolen today while my roommate borrowed it (whole 'nother story).
Just a long shot, but if anyone actually reads this blog, keep a heads up for it if you see anyone trying to sell it on craigslist or in the LA/OC area.
It was a white Scattante frame, white Origin8 bars with blue Fizik tape, chrome MKS with black toshi's, chrome fork, and grey origin8 wheels with black blade spokes.

On a related note, make sure everyone out there is using a U-lock if not two!
Cable/rope locks are a joke, don't even bother with them.

Be safe, ride easy.

Helpful tip for anyone riding velcro foot retention systems (burro, holdfast, aurora, etc.) like myself. Gonna try this out when I have the time!

Meanwhile, in the LBC...

Just up the coast from us vine children, our boy Congo is killing it...

Fakie 3 bars? it's whatever.
Love the mellowness of this video.

And Now for a Segment Called...

SIQPHIXIEBRO*
Documenting only the siqezt.

Did someone say barspin?
At least it's not a conversion..
kind of.

OH... that's how you're supposed to do it.
Got it.

Brakes are for fags... but a basket is just too practical to go without.

Okay I'm done.
Sorry.

*This is the only time you will see anyone on this site use any form of the word "fixie." Seriously.

Belt Packs FTW!

Archive Bags with soon be dropping this new little pack. Probably picking up one of these myself soon, because when it's too hot to bring a bag I end up bringing nothing - and only when I bring nothing do I actually need something. I know Matty is going to jump on this when he sees it..

Check out the shop here.

DTLA x Irvine Fixed

All I could manage to throw together since my laptop is still bleeding out.. Ordering a terabyte drive today and starting to rebuild my system asap, which should be SO much fun. Anyway, enjoy this little "ad" or whatever you want to call it, I'm working with the little I'm left with.

Until my mac is back up and running I'll be restricted to producing everything on friends' computers (probably Young's) so stay tuned.

Be well,

City of Angels

Definitely heading up for this premier.
Image and video hosting by TinyPic

Check out the final trailer for this sick flick:

On a related note...
We got some pretty chill footage cruising around USC and downtown. Met some kids who "rode for" DTLA bikes. No offense, but this was the shadiest shop team I've ever seen... a few of them, however, are better than most of the kids I see in edits popping up all day on vimeo. All the guys were awesome people though, just looking for exposure (and were stoked when we rolled up with a camera). BAD NEWS: my macbook is failing. I have so little disk space left that I can't import the footage from day 2 on the trip. So, until I get this mac situation cleared up (or get borrow a computer to finish the edits) you'll have to hold tight.

Doing my best and hating life,
Will

USC Day 1

The kids here in Los Angeles fucking kill it. Fakie forever, 540 keos, 180 bars... no problem. Can't wait to get the footage all together and get a few edits up. Time for a beer though.

Modz4Dayz

So I modded my Flip Mino HD camcorder with a fisheye lens and I could not be more stoked to use it now.

heeeere fishey fishey

All it took was a 30.5 - 37mm lens adapter, a Zeikos 37mm .45x wide angle lens, some gorilla glue and a lot of courage. Glued the adapter on, took apart the lens and flipped the outer glass (creating a fisheye), screwed it on and I was good to go. Footage looks a lot better with this little guy on, definitely getting much more in the picture than I was before, so it's doing it's job. Total cost (not including the Flip cam) was under 40 bucks. Can't really go wrong with this set up for a small budget like mine.

Going up to USC tomorrow through Sunday to do some filming, hopefully hitting some trick spots and getting some footy. Can't wait!

Be well,
William

R.I.P. to the 'rilla.

GOrilla Bicycles, a company mostly popularized by it's Kilroy freestyle frame, is officially dead. Not sure what's next for Torey or the riders over at GOrilla, but I know they're not ducking out of the scene just yet (Torey and Schmitt are definitely making some dollars with the Yo Mang! frame from TheGRIME). Times are tough though, and I guess that's just how it goes sometimes...

Here's Torey about 8 months back killing it on the Kilroy.

T-Level Bags

These nifty backpacks are straight from South Korea.
Made from a variety of polyurethane, nylon, and other water-repellant materials, these bags look pretty damn sturdy and are starting to get really popular here in California.

Check out Stryker LA if you're interested in copping one of these.

Mission Workshop Does It Right

I've never considered riding clipless due the the fact that I'd always be caring a second pair of shoes around with me, and I ride mostly to commute (and do barspins), so it would be more inconvenient than efficient in my eyes. If you share this perspective, then you'll be stoked on these new Rondels from Mission Workshop. Get yo swag on.

They're so sexy I'd probably buy a pair regardless of the fact that they're clipless. Downside: they won't be available online. At least, not yet.

Eighth Inch Like-a-Thon UPDATE!

As of today (right now), everyone that is a fan of eighth inch on facebook will receive a $20 off coupon code and the chance to win a Scrambler V3 frame and Julian wheelset. I'm stoked to use that code on the upcoming Butcher (:

If Eighthinch.com (link to facebook page) gets 500 more facebook fans in 3 days, everyone that's a fan gets a $30 off coupon code. everyone gets entered to win a scrambler frame and julian wheelset. like. that. shit. NOW.

be well

Stylin

In keeping with YK's post about Japan's crazy scene, I'm hypin' out this sick new video that W-Base just posted.
Japanese riders are consistently blowing me away; I'd be amazed if I could even ever get NEAR that level.
I'd be awesome if we could all go over to Japan next summer and do some riding and hit up Summer Sonic.

Tuesday, August 17, 2010

Seems like there's a lot of love for fixed bikes up in the UK.
But when you're Tom LaMarche, I guess its not that hard to make others want to ride their bikes too.

Folks from Nippon are just on a completely other level.
Can't wait to visit there next summer!

Eighth Inch Butcher Frame

Finally, the specs leaked for this beauty. Thanks to Locked Cog for the heads up.
All the free stylers should appreciate this:

- Sizing: 50, 53, 56, 59cm
- Double Butted 4130 Chromo
- 45/45 Integrated Headset
- Mid Bottom Bracket
- Removable 990 Brake Mounts
- Removable Cable Mounts
- 700×45 Tire Clearance (maybe more)
- Bar Spin Clearance In All Sizes
- Includes Mid-BB and Integrated Headeset
- Estimated Street Price – Frame: $300; Frame+Fork: $350.

I for one am super stoked on this. Looking like a pretty sturdy alternative to dropping around 450 on a Thrasher. Might have to start saving my dollars for this little whip.

Head over to eighthinch.com and check out their new freestyle line.

LIKE EIGHTH INCH ON FACEBOOK!!! Once they hit 3,000 fans, they're going to give each fan a coupon code for $20 off any eighth inch purchase made online, and give everyone the chance to win a V3 Scrambler frameset and Julian wheelset. You've got nothing to lose my friends.

Stay thirsty.

Throwback

Just threw together an edit from the some footage from the past weeks.
My first edit, so it's a little shitty, and we had to use my point and shoot along with YK's instead of Will's HD flip cam.

Oldeez

Just getting up some of the shit we've made in the past. None should be taken too seriously, a lot are from when we first started riding with this group of kids that we've got now.. Some just-for-fun edits I've made more to get laughs than respect. So yeah, if you've got nothing else to do...

Laguna

Just updated the sidebar with our latest edit of a trip a few of us took out to Laguna Beach on Saturday. Fun ride, just finding chill spots to hit up, including a few hills, Laguna Beach High, and the infamous 3rd street hill.

Check it out and keep spreading the word.

Stay tuned for more updates as we start updating more and getting everything going.
Sick new edit from LABrakeless. The trick scene is going crazy, especially with Joe throwing barspins everywhere and flowing like it's all he knows. 3's are looking so nice too. Damn. Can't wait to see what's up next for our friends in the 310.

Quick thought

Yo,

What's up guys, I'm Matt and I'll be one of the mod's/posters on this blog.
Just wanted to get a quick thought off my chest that doesn't reflect the blog's view as a whole but here goes.
I really want to take this blog/my posts in a direction that makes fixed gears and biking/cycling in general accessible to everyone. I don't get the reasoning behind all this elitist talk in the community; it's detrimental to the movement itself.
So let's just all get along, clip in, and ride.

Peace, Love, Uni-

Nah, fuck that.

Stay fixed,
Matt
